The light from the rising sun was just enough to colour the water of Kawau Bay. The clouds were dense and dark, and that has been the way of the day. Late this afternoon the rain, which could be seen throughout the day on the far side of the bay, finally came to us. Great for the garden.

I went out more in hope than expectation for a Sunday Sunrise to maintain the series for this year. I think that there is enough colour in the sky and in the water to qualify for a sunrise picture. Worth a look at the large version.

Sharing this early morning light were white-faced heron (the five closest to the camera), kuaka (bar-tailed godwits; the next five), and grey ducks (the three furthest from the shore). I saw at least a dozen kuaka spread along the beach in the shallows, and the usual 30 - 50 herons. The gulls had yet to arrive.
