Whippingham Church Revisited

Perhaps hard to believe from the picture but for 99% of daylight hours it has been pitch dark with heavy rain and gale force winds.

About an hour before dusk the rain passed through and some sunshine appeared for about half an hour just giving time for a quick dash to St Mildred's Church at Whippingham whose door featured in yesterday's blip.

The church which is like no other on the island is a result of a partnership between architect A.J.Humbert and Prince Albert and is where the royal family worshipped when in residence on the Island.

In the atmospheric churchyard are the graves of Earl Mountbatten's parents and the yachtsman Uffa Fox whilst inside is the tomb of Queen Victoria's youngest daughter Princess Beatrice and her husband.
