Monasterio de Pedralbes, Barcelona

After a windy night, Barcelona's skies were blown clean and the day cold. I was at work at 6:45 am high above the town with a fantastic crescent moon illuminating all below. Later, at coffee, I asked a colleague, what's Spanish for 'crescent', and the reply was 'creciente' which translates literally as 'growing'. And there it was, one of those moments when a growing knowledge of another language lights up your own! Up until that moment I had only associated 'crescent' with a geometric shape applied as a descriptor to things like the moon or a curved residential street, as opposed to something which has its roots in the young moon itself. Over the moon or what!
