St George's-Tron Church

You should always look up in Glasgow. The city has an amazing architectural history but you miss a lot of it unless you raise your eyes.
St George's-Tron Church enjoys one of the most prominent locations in the city centre. Near Queen Street Station it sits in the centre of Nelson Mandela Square at the junction with Glasgow's Style Mile on Buchanan Street.
The church, which opened in 1808, had a strong evangelical reputation within the Kirk. It also has a turbulent recent history.
In 2012 the Minister and his 500 strong congregation left the Church of Scotland and this beautifully refurbished building in a bitter row over the appointment of "gay" clergy.
The building itself remains an important symbol in Glasgow. But you must raise your eyes to fully appreciate it.
