Desperate Dan

Dundee has been the home of D C Thomson, Publishers, since 1905. They have produced Oor Wullie, The Broons, The Beano, The Dandy and Commando comics as well as The Sunday Post, Jackie and The Scots Magazine. Many of the characters are commemorated in the streets of the City Centre.

One of the most popular characters is Desperate Dan, who is a wild west character in the The Dandy. He made his appearance in the first issue which was dated 4 December 1937. He is apparently the world's strongest man, able to lift a cow with one hand. The pillow of his (reinforced) bed is filled with building rubble and his beard is so tough he shaves with a blowtorch. Seen with Desperate Dan is his pet, Dawg.

I waited, hoping that the street would be quiet, but since it wasn't raining - seemed like the first day since November - it was busy. However, the guy on the right looked like a mirror image of Dan so I went with this shot.
