The Year of the Horse

Acting on a tip off from a friend, HL and I walked through the Quadrangle of Old College this morning to be met with a host of the newest undergraduates standing to attention in serried ranks and looking in their colourful garb very out of place amongst the grey stone cloisters. Rumour has it that they light up in the dark.

In fact this is an installation exhibition of The Lanterns of Terracotta Warriors, which was originally commissioned for the 2008 Beijing Olympics and is being presented until the middle of February by the University of Edinburgh in association with the Confucius Institute for Scotland. They are lit as lanterns from 4pm-9pm

And Confucius, he say, better maybe when dark to see.
And His Lordship, he say , too darn cold to venture out again!
