Holiday Combo

The Thai Buddhist temple in my neighborhood is decorated for Chinese New Year now. Here we have the regular Buddhist statue and the red holiday lanterns. A good portion of Thai people have some Chinese heritage in their family tree, so Chinese New Year is largely celebrated here too.

The celebrations are varied...
My roommate was given a bag of oranges by a dancing dragon as she walked home from Thai class today. A lot of the malls have Chinese displays selling red dresses and traditional snacks. There are fireworks going off day and night, friends going to feast with their families, and businesses with Chinese owners are closed for a couple of days.

Happy Chinese New Year!
