this is in the courtyard just outside the instituto superior técnico, which is where the conference was held. i really love seeing citrus growing on trees - i'd love it if i had a lime tree all of my own.

after the conference i went to find somewhere for dinner with an overly large group of people. we made a mistake and went to a wine bar thinking it was a restaurant, and so mistakenly paid meal prices for wine snacks. whoops.

however, after this the group splintered into those who were smarting from that, and those of us who wanted to take it as 'one of those things' and find somewhere else for a meal. this was good and resulted in an excellent locals' dinner of chips, rice and grilled pork heavily covered in garlic with some of my favourite people i'd met at the conference.
