"The Shearers Have Gone Now" ...

...Yes, the shearers have long gone from this old shearing shed, or wool shed - as we used to call them sometimes -just around the corner from us - a reassembled shed from one of the station properties, with mostly original timbers used..I'm not sure how long it's been there..

...Now used for functions, wedding receptions, birthday celebrations and the like, this old replica shed stands just as proud as most still on other station properties and during the day if we wish to return to the past for just a little - while we can venture inside this big shed..a reminder certainly, of the past for us..

...And we can remember the times when we both saw the fleeces being tossed into the air and across the tables, ready to be trimmed and then rolled and put into the jute bales ready for pressing..and later, loaded onto the big semi-trailer trucks to be taken to the storage areas at the nearest Ports...ready to be shipped wherever..

...In fact, I think I have a photo of one of the trucks packed with wool bales..and I remember they were worth good money too in our days on the stations in the early '60's..
