The Felucca Man

A felucca ride on the Nile provided a welcome respite from stresses and strains of our life in Cairo at the moment. There was no wind, so all the boats just sat anchored a few feet out with the captains looking thoroughly bored. Even when they're busy navigating the Nile, they all do a very good job of not being there and letting you get on with enjoying the peace and quiet.

Our felucca man today was Captain Salah whom we tipped the 10LE saving we made on the normal hourly price of 50LE. He seemed chuffed with that. A little girl selling pocket tissues got another couple and she also seemed quite pleased. It's all just pennies, and it's all rather tragic.

Our frustrations pale in comparison, I keep trying to tell myself.
