The River Niger as it Passes Mopti

Stunning views of the River Niger at the point it bends by Mopti, a small town in Central Mali. Much of the fish sold in Bamako comes from around here and there are many boats plying their trade along the river. All the boats are painted bright colours at the bow, some also at the stern. Sadly I missed the other sight that many visitors have when they come here. There is a young hippo that has taken up residence near one of the islands in the middle of the river. A colleague had a picture of her earlier in the day, but she must have been hiding when I had my chance to take pictures. Oh well, maybe next time.
