Quarry

This jagged hillside & rockpile has been on my list of interesting photo locations for a while, but today is the first time I have actually taken a picture here. It is right next door to a major shopping centre, so I am often nearby, but usually not with a camera. Last summer we discovered a pair of killdeer who had made this ragged landscape their own. I think of it as a quarry, though in reality the developers are just chipping away at this hill to make room for more stores.

Today was a grey day and I couldn't find any photo inspiration anywhere. But when I drove by this location, a watery sun was beginning to peek through the clouds and reflect off the ice. I'm glad I stopped!
