Terracotta Warrior Lanterns (2014.035)

Approximately 90 lanterns, styled akin to Qin Shi Huang's Terracotta Warriors, are on display in Edinburgh's Old College quadrangle as part of the city's Chinese New Year celebrations.

The lanterns have been displayed in Stockholm and Birmingham, as well as several Chinese cities. They make for a striking display, headed up by a family and a horse.

As light sources themselves, and surrounded by so many people, they made for a very tricky subject. This is a composite of 13 photos. Photographers of all skill levels seemed to be having great difficulty with them, and I was mentally Photoshopping/compositing as I was shooting.
