It's all over

Well, the tree was given a two week stay of execution but today it's happened.

Kevin and Robert (or the Tree Murderers as the kids called them) turned up bright and early to begin bringing the tree down.

There's something very sad about seeing a healthy 200 years old tree cut down like this and there was an even more sombre mood in the house than usual on a Monday morning (and that's saying something) but the council and the church have agreed between them that it's a danger and because it can't be pruned back the whole thing has to come down.

I've earmarked some of the wood and so at least next year when it has dried out we'll be able to use it in the wood burning stoves, toast the old tree and remember it. One thing for sure, it's going to leave a big hole in the sky.
