Argentinian Christmas

Christmas day started well. I awoke late in a comfortable bed, in a luxurious hotel room in Buenos Aeries, Argentina. Holly and I watched some TV, I had some traditional Christmas chocolate for breakfast and then we gave each other gifts. As it didn't make sense to pack the gifts only to drag them around all of South America with us we took photos of the presents and gave those to one another instead.

We me up with the rest of the gang and went for a walk to find some breakfast. While many places were still closed we did manage to find a couple that were open and got a feed. On the way back to the hotel I snapped a shot of this beautiful classic car, the city background and Caitie and Holly walking besides it.

Our only planned activity for the day was a city tour led by our guide Juan. It was a good tour, one that was pretty quick which wasn't overly bad considering the heat of the day. We visited a few landmarks including some impressive buildings, the birthplace of the samba and the La Recoleta Cemetery. This cemetery is vey large and very impressive. All the plots are huge, excessively decorated and there is so many of them stacked together it turns the area into a mini city complete with streets.

In the evening we managed to get a taxi to the location we were planning to go the night before. It was a great location full of bars and restaurants and we quickly set about visiting both of them. Firstly a bar for a couple of drinks that had a very relaxed feel and some excellent beers especially after having very few beer options throughout Peru, mostly largers. Once we started feeling a bit merry and speaking a bit more loudly it was time for food. We found a top restaurant with excellent service as well as a two for one drink special that we quickly abused. Dinner was delicious and the night turned out to be the one we were hoping to have the night before.
