Regeneration

I passed a group of birch trees this afternoon and most of them were 'peeling' like this! This one was probably the most dramatic. I believe this may be a Paper Birch as the bark is coming off in sheets - the wild Silver Birch bark comes off in thinner strips.

I seem to remember from my scouting days that this peeling bark, if carefully removed, could be used as tinder to start a fire - probably by rubbing two boy scouts together. :-)
