The Life Of Ponty Cyclops

A Litte Corvid Humour ....

I've spent the afternoon updating my birds talk. I am doing one in a couple of weeks time.

You can have a sneak preview ... ;o)

Regular commuters on the A470 had begun noticing larger than normal numbers of Jackdaws dead by the side of the road.

One of these commuters took it upon themselves to ring the RSPB in Cardiff. RSPB Cymru rang the BTO to conduct an investigation into the fatalities. The BTO came out and collected the poor deceased birds for analysis.

The first bit of good news was they were not in any way incapacitated by any disease such as bird flu or avian pox. So the next obvious cause of death was by vehicular collisions.

Further analysis of the birds revealed from paint particles that nearly all the fatal collisions had occurred with articulated Lorries not cars, over 95%! This clearly required further studies. So the BTO sent volunteers out onto the A470 to watch the behaviour of the birds.

Now I have already told you earlier in this talk that Jackdaws are supremely intelligent birds. What they discovered was this...

When the Jackdaws came down to feed on any road kill near the hard shoulder they always kept one bird in a nearby branch on look out. They found that while all of the lookout Jackdaws could call out “Car! Car! Car!” not one could call “Truck!”

I thank you .....
