Wordwise

Was wandering the sloblands of the Rogerstown estuary this afternoon when I got this message from a friend ‘Just read this about a long distance relationship and thought it was nice: "because all you have is words, it makes the relationship deeper".’ And I thought no that’s not right. What chance does this give to the honest, loving person bereft of a convincing, impressive vocabulary. There is so much more to a deep relationship than words. A relationship is about real commitment, consideration, empathy and willingness to accept with openness the failing and flaws of each other. To be willing to do your best and fail and try again and fail better and know.
It is so easy to have the perfect long distance relationship…. Lots of time to improve the perfect answer, to weigh up the options and to play mind chess without the imposition of a real time clock that seems to run so much faster in a face to face conversation. Time to google the perfect quote, to contrive impressive unquestionable strengths. For me the long distance relationship with only words is an abdication of the responsibilities of caring enough to put yourself out and visit and if I care for somebody I will always visit……just saying.
