ARCTIC FOX

Our favourite* Canadian granddaughter is educating us about Arctic Foxes. Who knew that they eat lemmings? Who knew they are the most heat efficient of the Arctic land mammals, able to cope well with temperatures down to - 50 C? Just as well, really, since they live in Saskatchewan. You too could keep as warm if you had a fur coat, small ears, short legs and furry paws.

We don't get letters from her often but when we do it's a red letter day here. We have a bit of work to do on apostrophes, but, c'mon, she's only eight.

* We know it is wrong to have favourites, but she is our only Canadian granddaughter!
