Cineworld Glasgow

Today I got the train into Glasgow and then made my way up to Hope Street to catch a bus out to Queen’s Cross.

As I was walking along Sauchiehall Street the light was really good on the Cineworld building. I liked the colours and shapes with the Premier Inn in the background.

Cineworld was built on the site of Green's Playhouse, and opened as the UGC Cinema in September 2001. In 2005, it became part of the Cineworld chain.

Green’s Playhouse (Glasgow Apollo) brings back lots of memories of some fantastic concerts. Seeing bands like the Who, the Faces, Paul McCartney, Led Zeppelin and Fleetwood Mac was an amazing experience. Definitely happy days.

Cineworld is in the Guinness Book of Records, as the world's tallest cinema at over 200ft. In 2000 however, during the cinema's construction, the building design came under heavy criticism from the architecture community. The building was designated the "Carbuncle of the Year" for its poor design choices and contrast with the surrounding area.
