Grumpy Old Man

Dryopteris lepidopoda

This group of ferns is a second generation from spores which I collected in Nepal in 1990. They may look fairly ordinary just now, but in the springtime the new fronds unfurl in shades of copper and pink and are quite dramatic. This fern was quite unknown to me at the time of collection and is now a very ornamental species in the garden here at Arduaine.
