Fair Trade Week - Derbyshire Dales Steering Group

This evening I was part of the steering group for the Derbyshire Dales and Bakewells involvement in Fair Trade Fortnight.
The group had done a lot of work enthused by their award for the UK's 2013 best promotion of Fair Trade.
This year the focus is on the Banana which sits in perfectly with the Peak District as just up the road from Bakewell we have Chatsworth where unbelievably the world's most popular banana 'The Devonshire' originated!
So on the 22nd of february there will be a banana race and other banana themed fun throughout the Derbyshire Dales.
Anyone wishing to take part in the run from Bakewell to Darley Dale at 12.00 on the 22nd feb please contact the Bakewell town Clerk. :)
But Fair Trade isn't just about Bananas and here in the peak we see much 'Unfair trading' situations arising from the local dairy and meat production sales to the multi nationals .
