House of music

When Fergus & I went for a walk late this afternoon, we passed by this house with musical notes cut into the shutters. This house once belonged to Elizabeth, who was a music teacher and accompanist for many soloists and choirs over the past 40+ years.

Elizabeth is still playing the piano - she was here just a short time ago, accompanying the small musical group that meets every Tuesday evening at our house. Our little group, called Take 10, is made up of seniors (except for the two of us), and we work together to create a program of mostly familiar older music to share 3 or 4 times a year with area senior homes.

This little group is not a choir, and not even that good, musically speaking, but we have fun and everyone loves singing the old songs. It's easy to forget how important music is in all stages of life, for health and happiness, and the community building that happens when you sing with other people. You don't need to know how to sing, or even all the words - just sing - sing a song [la la la la la]!
