Kotuku at Puponga Inlet

Such a thrill to get this image, firstly getting any kotuku (NZ White Heron) image from a kayak is a lucky break, but secondly having it's shadow against the cliff is a wonderful plus. Just a little camera, in a waterproof housing, so it did really well.

We chose the right time of day to launch at high tide, and to paddle as far up the inlet as we could. We were also able to paddle back out to sea and fight our way against the wind around a little tree studded island and back into the shelter of the inlet.

Another amazing thing that happened was that we literally bumped into friends from Christchurch, out there, paddling on the inlet! We didn't even know they were in the vicinity. We're all going to celebrate by having dinner together tonight.
