Red Rose of Lancaster

Since I blipped the white rose of York yesterday, it seemed only right that I should blip the red rose of Lancaster today - especially with it being Saint Valentine's Day and red roses being associated with love.
Both the house of York and the house of Lancaster were branches of the Plantagenet royal house, tracing their descent from King Edward III (1312 – 1377). The House was named Lancaster, because its main members were all descended from a son of Edward III called John of Gaunt who was the 1st Duke of Lancaster. The Lancastrian supporters adopted the Red Rose as their emblem and badge.
As for Saint Valentine, he is a widely recognised third-century Roman saint commemorated on February 14th and associated since the Middle Ages with a tradition of courtly love. Nothing much is known about him except his name and the fact that he died on February 14th on the Via Flaminia in the north of Rome. So here is my Valentine's gift to all my Blip-buddies - given with love. x
