The Speculoos Latte

There's one thing that sets cafés in Belgium apart from cafés everywhere else: when you order a hot drink, they never fail to provide you with some sort of sweet accompaniment. Generally, this comes in the form of Speculoos, a brown-sugar-and-spice biscuit which the Canadian part of me associates with winter, egg nog and Christmas. Here in Belgium though, they're a year-round staple and any self-respecting café (as well as many of the not-so-self-respecting ones) wouldn't dream of serving you a caffeinated beverage without one.

That said, Parlor Coffee is one on the few cafés in Belgium that doesn't serve Speculoos with coffee, but there's a good reason for it: they serve Speculoos IN coffee.

So here's Parlor's take on a flavoured latté. Frothy, sweet and dusted with Speculoos powder, it was pretty fantastic - and as far as I'm concerned, they are completely forgiven for what would have otherwise been a major Belgian faux-pas.
