Icon Times Three

Had a drive out today to the Palm Jumeirah in search of the new Waldorf Astoria Hotel that has just opened for business.

We found it! Nothing spectacular in itself but it did have a lovely view.....so that is my blip today!

Three iconic buildings in one single frame!

The Burj Khalifa......way out there in the distance
The Burj Al Arab.....built in the shape of a sail
The Jumeirah Beach Hotel.....depicting a wave breaking on the shore

They all have a story!

The Burj Khalifa
Stands more than 800 metres tall and can be seen from 95 kilometres away.
It hosts the world's first Armani hotel and also houses 900 Dubai residences
There are 37 floors of office space
A fine dining restaurant and an observation deck.
The tower's glass and steel exterior would cover 17 football fields if laid out flat.
It will take some poor workers between six and eight weeks to clean.
The concrete used in the core could build a pavement 1,283 miles long
The cooling system produces enough condensation to fill 20 Olympic swimming pools
To ensure the tower doesn't twist or break during bad weather, it is built in a Y-shape

The Burj Al Arab
Means “Tower of the Arabs”.
It stands on an artificial island 280 metres off the beach
Its connected to the mainland by a private curved bridge
It cost $650 million to build.
Tiger Woods practiced his tee shot on the Sheikh’s helicopter pad atop the building.
Andre Agassi and Roger Federer could not resist the temptation of having a friendly knock about on the same spot
Michael Jackson was there purely for the Spicy Buffalo Wings
It also sports the tallest cross in the world!

The Jumeriah Beach Hotel
Boasts 598 rooms and suites
19 beachfront villas
20 restaurants and bars
It was completed in 1997 and stands 93 metres high

Happy Blipping Everyone
