But, then again . . . . .

Double Decker.

Not much time for blipping today other than a quick sortie into The Gunpowder Factory in the gathering dusk and rain. This fungus is a gill-less variety growing on an old elder. I now have a field guide on my computer so will try and identify the specimen, but that may take a little while. Incidentally, it really was growing at this angle, they are normally upright so that their spores can fall out from between the gills; if you don't have gills you can tolerate a list to port. This species probably decomposes and dries out to release its spores.

Edit: I've managed to indentify this as Auricularia auricula-judae, common names include: Jew's ear, wood ear, jelly ear or Judas' Ear.

Meanwhile, I escorted Mrs TD to Ingliston to set up a display at the patchwork show for her Linus group. I'm sure most people must know about the "a quilt is a hug you can keep" project; for those that don't, here's a bit of info extracted from the leaflets:

In 1995, an article appeared in the American ‘Parade’ magazine entitled, ‘Joy to the World,’ by Pulitzer Prize winning photojournalist Eddie Adams. Part of the article featured a little girl who had been undergoing chemotherapy who stated that her security blanket had helped her through her treatment. Karen Loucks decided to donate home made blankets to Denver’s Rocky Mountain Children’s Cancer Centre…. Project Linus was born. It was named after the little boy in the ‘Peanuts’ cartoon strip who was always featured carrying his security blanket. Charles Schultz, creator of the cartoon, gave his blessing to the movement.

The idea reached the UK in March 2000 and Herself is one of the local co-ordinators.

Blatant advertising over, I don't suppose Blip Central will object.
