A downtown day with Tatum

It’s Seattle Public Schools’ winter break this week. The grandsons went skiing. Fiona’s school was open 4 days, but we did pick her up yesterday at our usual thurs time for 2 hours, but took her home early to attend a lecture. Last friday we enjoyed her all day by herself. Today we had the privilege of Tatum to ourselves so we had a rainy “downtown” day - first at the Public Market where there is so much to look at and entertain. (and one art gallery with landscape photos..) Tatum likes burritos so we had lunch at a Mexican stall with really good food. And later we had a stop for coffee and cookie (H and me) and a brownie and limonata for T. Then we had time for the Seattle Art Museum and the new Miró show - walked in just as a docent was starting a tour - sometimes I can’t listen to these people but this older lady must have been an elementary school teacher because she talked to the kids in the (rather large I thought) group and we all learned something! Nice!

Just a note about last night- We attended the UW ICE initiative lecture with Paul Nicklan, a National Geographic Photographer who spends freezing months in the arctic and antarctic and parts of Canada for what he says are 5 or 6 "great" photos a year! (I would have been totally thrilled over the “not so great” photo of the spirit bear he waited weeks to capture -this one) He had some great stories and gave some good photo tips ....(should I find myself face to face with a polar bear on a chunk of ice:-) )
His website has fabulous photos if you want to see leopard seals, penguins and all sort of bears.
Not an easy life, capturing these….he is passionate about showing the world what would be lost if we harm the environment any more-like with the proposed oil pipeline thru Canada.

A few more of our day at the market and SAM today
