K6

FRIDAY

My internet search suggests this is a K6 (kiosk number six). Introduced in 1935, and initially designed to commemorate the silver jubilee of King George V.

No guessing where these two are. They were quite respectable and, when I arrived, they were full of Japanese tourists having their photos taken. But a Westminster Council audit of the 18 boxes in nearby Soho found foil wraps, adverts for sexual services and human waste - along with broken windows and graffiti. The council cannot remove the boxes as many of them are listed but claims many are being used for drug deals or to smoke crack.

The Council has now written to BT asking the company to weld some the boxes up so they cannot be used for illegal activities.

Last year on this day I blipped their cousins in Edinburgh. . I wonder how long the Royal Crown will survive on K6s north of the border?
