Up and down the land, townsfolk commemorated the dead of that war to end all wars by building memorials to the dead. The taller the better in many cases. Sculptors were employed to carve out heroic figures bearing rifles and heroic poses. Band’s played at the unveiling. Townsfolk grieved.
Mainly, they forgot about the wounded of course.
