Fulmar

I walked out of town to Berstane Bay and then around the Head of Holland and back. Birds included pink-footed and greylag geese, black guillemot, twite, long-tailed duck, and red-breasted mergansers. I'd heard there was a family of otters on the bay beach yesterday but the tide today was high so they were probably having a sleep. I also hoped to see hares boxing but only saw three very far apart animals and they all looked pretty docile. One was even wearing a CND badge.

People often think fulmars are gulls but they are more like miniature albatrosses with the same salt-extraction tubes on their upper bills.
