C Y O Connor

This beach at South Fremantle was once the entry point for a local abattoir.

Now it is a swimming beach with a old wreck in the foreground and a sculpture 100 yards out to sea.

The sculpture is of an early engineer C Y O Connor on his horse as he rode to his death . It is a reported suicide of one of our greatest engineers who tragically thought his engineering feat of taking water from Perth to Kalgoorlie would fail.

The pipe was a huge success and still is the link the goldfields.

A tragic story .
