A Million Women Marching

Our outing today was to the National Gallery at Trafalgar Square. As we were approaching the Sainsbury Wing (in the background), the "Million Women Rise" march entered the square. It marked International Women's Day, and as many as 10,000 marchers were expected to participate in London. View this large for the full effect.

The lady policeman (a bobby?) in the foreground is smiling with approval, and a Canadian flag hangs from a window in the upper left. I don't recall ever seeing Trafalgar Square so full of people.

The main this we saw at the gallery was an interesting show on the German Renaissance in the Sainsbury wing, consisting primarily of things from its own collection, displayed to show how the gallery had only slowly developed an interest in early German art.
