On a warm and sunny Sunday...

On a warm and sunny Sunday the snow cover is thinning rapidly. There is a warm wind blowing up from the south and it is this wind that really melts the snow. Even out of the sun it was +9C, incredibly warm for early March.
As long as the snow hides the soil the heat is reflected away but once the earth starts to show through like this the snow melts rapidly. The dark soil absorbs the sun and warms up which then melts more snow revealing more earth that warms up and... You see how it works.
I walked the road circuit today (7 km) in 1 hour 15 minutes. It was good to be walking on ice free roads and good to be wearing relatively light clothes to do it. I'm unhappy that our snow is melting away so early but if it has to go then I might as well as enjoy the sun and the warmth!
