Entierro de la Sardina

Spain has this weird celebration called El Entierro de la sardina to wrap up the Carnaval weekend. There's a parade where people are dressed up in mourning clothes, there's music and whistle blowing. It's a tradition that represents a sense of getting rid of the pass, symbolized by the burying of a sardine, in order to be reborn as a stronger person. It was quite a cultural tradition to behold.

Later, I went to church at the English church for Ash Wednesday. It was a small gathering. Fr. Ron began by telling us his appreciation of coming and that we shall be blessed. During his homily, Fr. Ron talked about sacrifice and how important it is to think of others. Alex, one of the musicians in the choir sang a beautiful rendition of Sacrifice by Elton John to hammer in Fr. Ron's point.

Since it was Ash Wednesday, it was a bit strange not to see any Spanish people with any crosses on their foreheads throughout the day. hmm... Just something I noticed.
