Christmas Day

After a relaxing morning (and exchanging gifts with Damian), we set out on a city tour of Buenos Aires in the blistering heat!

Buenos Aires is home to 11 million 'portenos', a name given to the inhabitants that literally means 'residents of the port'. We learnt about it's bloody history -shaped by conflict and struggles. Even the achievement of independence in 1816 did not resolve ongoing disputes between local residents and conservative provincial landowners. However, following a succession of military juntas, Argentina now has a stable, democratic government (although our tour guide seemed to have other thoughts on that matter!)

We visited the cathedral where the current Pope was Bishop (that was exciting!), the district of Recoleta, famous for its cemetery often referred to as a miniature citywithin-a-city because to its size, the districts of Palermo, Plaza San Martin, Plaza de Mayo and the colourful neighbourhood of La Boca, with its colourful wooden buildings.

We headed back to our hotel to begin Christmas Celebrations: Take Two - and this one was fabulous! We got a taxi to Fitz Roy St, and began our night at The Fitz Bar, with beer and cocktails. Afterwards we had our choice of restaurants, and settled on one that had steak, grill and 2 for 1 drinks! The food was sublime, the drinks were delicious and our waitress was lovely!

Christmas in Buenos Aires was redeemed!
