Central Café, Vienna

Our flight home was not till the afternoon, so we were able to have a little more sightseeing in Vienna. First we visited the Spanish Riding School to watch the morning exercise session of the Lipizzaner horses. No photography was allowed. The two hours was split into four half hour sessions with five horses in each group. Some were young and green. I know just enough about horsemanship to appreciate the skill and quiet control of the riders. After walking for a while and enjoying the wonderful architecture of Vienna we visited the Central Café. This is the oldest coffee house in Vienna and has an ornate vaulted ceiling. Choosing one photograph from the day was not easy, but I decided on this magnificent cake sculpture. It was challenging to choose just one cake to sample. I had a custard slice - the royalty of custard slices of which our usual fare is a pale imitation.
