Big Boat Race

This afternoon we took a boat ride on the Seine with the Vedettes du Pont Neuf, with our friend Liz D from London (the D is to distinguish her from the Liz we stayed with last summer on the Isle of Skye--that visit starts here). This is fun to view large.

Heading east our boat overtook this Bateau Mouche (the Vedettes' biggest competitor). Here we're catching up with it as we approach the Pont Alexandre Trois--Paris's most flamboyant bridge--we pulled even with the other boat under the bridge, and forged ahead with impressive speed. Another view of the bridge is here.

Earlier the three of us visited the Pinacotèque de Paris--a relatively new private museum--for a modest exhibition on the "Breughel Dynasty", which consisted almost entirely of minor works by members of the clan--with the primary exception of a few drawings and paintings by Jan Breughel the Elder; there were only a pair of prints by Pieter Breughel the Elder--by far the greatest of the family, whom we'd seen wonderfully in Vienna last fall.

A wonderful early spring day, with the temperature reaching close to 20° C (68° F).
