A Heart of Stone

I got the Deerness bus out to Tankerness and got off at the ruined mill. I walked along the track up past Loch of Tankerness in a cold and strong wind. Masses of ducks there including wigeon, teal, mallard, goldeneye and tufted duck.
I crossed the road and then went along the track past Smiddyquoy and onto the shore of Inganess Bay at Long Ayre. An ayre is a raised shingle (or stony) beach, often with a brackish lagoon behind it. I found a spot somewhat out of the wind to make coffee, took a few photos, and then continued along the shorepast Weethick Point and the Sand of Essonquoy and to the Sand of Wideford. More birds included shelduck and hen harrier. Just one more shot here.
