madwill's world

Motorway Detritus

One of the paths we regularly walk takes us within about 3 or 4 metres of the A1(M), through what used to be a lay-by.

There are a few trees between the path and the road (quite scary as there are no crash barriers along the carriageway) and accumulated in these trees are thousands of bit of rubbish - crisp packets, plastic bags, bottles, bits of tyres, old cones and this - which appears to be a spare wheel cover, as may be seen on the front of a VW camper van.

I spotted it a couple of years ago but it 'disappeared' and recently I was looking at the rubbish (there are no leaves on the trees to really hide it all) and I saw it again - it had fallen over. So today I retrieved it - brushed off the worst of the mud, snails and slugs and stood it up for a photo shoot. I was surprised at how the colours had remained fairly bold.

There is still a company call Wigwam Holidays - might just send them a copy of this to see if it belongs to them - or if they made them to sell to holiday makers.
