FLOWERING CHERRY

It was very foggy this morning but having been away for a couple of weeks, it was a joy to go out into our garden to look around and see what was growing and blooming. The hawthorn outside the fence is flowering well, but my favourite is our flowering purple leaved cherry tree or for those who want the correct name Prunus Cerasifera Pissardii.

For me, there is such promise in this branch - lovely colours of the bark, beautiful blooms, buds half open and buds still to open to their full beauty.

Mr. HCB was keen to share this song - sung here by Pat Boone, who was famous in the 1950s and 1960s.

Wonder if you can guess what it is before you click on the link?

The significance of the cherry blossom tree in Japanese culture goes back hundreds of years. In their country, the cherry blossom represents the fragility and the beauty of life. It's a reminder that life is almost overwhelmingly beautiful but that it is also tragically short.
