Commonwealth Celebrations

Last Monday was Commonwealth Day, which I understand always falls, in UK, on the 2nd Monday of March. Hence the flags on the mast which were unfurled last Monday. The top blue flag with a globe surrounded by 53 bars is the Commonwealth flag and the blue flag just below with the gold cross is the Guernsey ensign. The lower flags represent a selection of flags from the other nations.
The Commonwealth is a voluntary association of 53 independent countries which are home to 2.2 billion citizens and over 60% of these are under the age of 30. The Commonwealth includes some of the world’s largest, smallest, richest and poorest countries, spanning five regions. Thirty-one of its members are small states, many of them island nations.
The theme for this Commonwealth day was "Team Commonwealth" LINK
Topping all that it was a lovely sunny Saturday, birds singing, insects buzzing and flowers flowering....a day to celebrate!
