Ice on the pool near Lotstugan

Today was sunny, windy and cold. The temperature last night was below freezing as winter returned.
Looking out to the sun and blue sky we decided to take a walk on the rocky slopes of the island of Härnön. We started near "Lotsstugan", pilot's cottage, where in the old days the pilots waited for boats heading into into Härnösand. Nowadays it is a conference centre.
On the rocky slopes there are a lot of fresh water pools and they were covered in ice which was patterned in wonderful ways. Don't ask me how these patterns form, in fact if you know get in touch because I'd like to know.
This is a detail taken very close to the ice and in reality this photo shows a piece of ice about 5cm across. You can find this point where the three large patterns meet in the photo of the whole pool on Flickr.
It was a great walk. The waves were impressive, crashing onto the shore and breaking the ice in some rock pools. There were so many things to look at and consider photographing, and a lot of photos taken. We walked, scrambled and photographed for over two hours and covered 1.4 kilometers. This is probably a record for slow progress!!
