horns of wilmington's cow

Sharky

A day of some contrasts. Most of it spent in Montrose at an auction, and I managed to come home with 7 cameras (1 SLR, 3 compact folding bellows things, 3 compacts) and a Yashica cine camera for a grand total of 40 quid. Oh, and 3 lenses for the Minolta X-300 slr (28mm, 50mm and 80-210mm, all Tamron)...

AND Newcastle had a pretty comfortable win to remain nicely at the top of the Championship.

But coming home we decided to stop by the Hawes Inn in South Queensferry, and the kitchen seemed to have some sort of mental breakdown. We waited a bit of time for our starters, but after over an hour then waiting for our main courses, being told a number of times it was just on the way or being chased up, we decided to be un-British and simply cancelled the main courses (getting profuse apologies), paid up for what we'd eaten and drunk (which was fine, as was the service if you ignore the delay) and went for chips on the way home instead. Actually, we weren't the only people having trouble. In our little section there were two bills queried for being incorrect, and the table behind us had one order wrong when delivered, and two of the four plates sent back because the veg was uncooked.

God only knows what was going on in the rest of the Inn, but the boss that we spoke to certainly seemed to have had enough, and as we left an overheard snatch of conversation suggested there was a reshuffle going on in the kitchen, with someone taking over someone else's section...

But at the end of the day, the good still outweighed the bad.

(backblipped yesterday as well)
