Crimea

Not sure how you feel about this current crisis, but I don't want to get into politics. Jasper Fforde's excellent series of books are set in a very different universe, and timescale, but one theme in them is that the Crimean War lasted far longer than it did in the world I live in - prophetic? Also, if you know Swindon at all (I have always got completely lost when there), you may associate with his reference to it in his books, and his hilarious web site.

Early today I hoped to post a photo from my newly-converted IR camera (arrived about 09:30), but sadly that has not proved possible - more about this later.
