St George’s Warehouse Huddersfield

A late 19th century goods warehouse, built for the London and North Western Railway to a well thought-out design and high specification.

The LNWR was the largest joint stock company in the United Kingdom, collecting greater revenue than any other company in the country. It served London, Birmingham, Manchester, Liverpool, Leeds, Glasgow and Edinburgh.

Their most impressive goods warehouses were at Huddersfield and Leeds. At both places whole wagons and their contents could be lifted to different levels.

The wagon lift can be seen projecting from the side of the warehouse.

Lunch and catch-up with Kay from the Alzheimer's Society.
