Eternal Flame

It's been a while since I used candles regularly for Meditation, so it seemed like a good opportunity to return to the discipline. It provides a great focal point [ha ha] and also a subject for a photo. May well try a few variations on a theme over the coming year.

Beautiful blackbird singing it's heart out at dusk this evening. A quiet evening and the bird song just filled the void.

The old Beatles track came to mind, "Blackbird singing in the dead of night". In an interview Paul McCartney talked about the song, and the relevance of the lyrics "you were only waiting for this moment to arise" to the black people's struggle in the southern states, and how he was using the symbolism of a blackbird. "It's not really about a blackbird whose wings are broken, you know, it's a bit more symbolic."

Symbolism is important in the inner journey and so the candle has particular importance in the Meditative process.

Called to the hospital this afternoon to visit Mum, also dropped in to see C afterwards, able to understand what he was saying today. Quick visit to Dad on the way home, overdue for my Meditation so he suggested I settle there before going home. Like an old folks home with the two of us sitting there quietly as the sun settled down behind the ridge.
