A Monkey's Tale

On the Piste!

Back blipped on 21/03/2014.

It was our final day in the French Alps & we set out to make it a good'n.

We had a fairly leisurely morning once again, chair lifting up & skiing down one of the highest & most picturesque view points of Meribel. Willow attempted to break yesterday's record down hill shoosh of 51mph. Gunning for a whopping 60mph, but unfortunately he could only muster 50mph - Just 50pmh short of Johan Clarey's record speed on the Wengen downhill course in Switzerland of 100pmh achieved in last season's skiing World Cup. Next year.

We stopped for drinks after we'd got separated momentarily on a meandering run down the mountain, & we took to the sun loungers & enjoyed the beautiful weather & watch the world go by.

I think the weekend had finally begun to take it's toll today, & so it wasn't long into the afternoon, after meeting up with the other guys for a spot of lunch, that we made for the La Folie Douce bar. Scott, Geoff & Willow had found this place yesterday, perched on the mountainside with the most perfect, sweeping views, & thankfully I had joined their party today. It's a wicked bar with a fantastic atmosphere - DJ, dancers (of all persuasions), dancers on tables, dancers on roofs, packed crowd, buckets of beer, VIP area, a big white rabbit & fireworks! It was crazy. Needless to say, two buckets later, we were quite happy with our situation & were really not fussed if the coach went without us tonight!

We did however manage to tear ourselves away & ski for our lives down to the cable car, & were back at the hotel with an hour to spare. That cup of coffee & walnut cake on our return went down a treat too. Piste of cake!

It has been another brilliant weekend, wonderful weather, great skiing on good snow, top company & I look forward to it all again next year!

Pour le plaisir.
