Milford Sound

We set off pretty early from Te Anau for what they say is a two hour drive.....not so for us??? Lots of stops for photography and generally enjoying this truly magnificent landscapes that abound in this area.

The mountains of rock tower above and around as we drove through the valley and climbed to the entrance of the Homer Tunnel. (Absolutely nowhere to go but through this amazing engineering feet, 1 in 10 slope, 1,219 metres long towards Milford Sound.

There was some low cloud lingering around the mountains, and a little has remained for this photo. Did love the tree. :)

We set off for home with some diversions.....a trip along the Holyford Valley right to the end of the road, with a walk up to the three tiered Humbolt Falls (we were on the other side of this range yesterday) and a meander over the swing bridges along the Holyford Track and Moraine Track. Stops at The Chasm, The Mirror Lakes, and other scenic spots along the way.

OMG...what an outstanding and memorable day we have enjoyed.

I walked the Milford Track (4 days) when I was a teenager in horrendous conditions, the we flew from Queenstown to Milford on our honey moon, it was the first time by road for Doug, who with his roading and engineering background was particularly interested in the Homer Tunnel.

Sorry, not to be viewing or commenting, but there really isn't much time. We are off our for dinner in a minute, that is when I've downed my refreshing G & T.

Off to Mavora Lakes tomorrow.
